Rev. Dr. Dean Vieselmeyer Memorial

The Rev. Dr. ”Coach” Dean Vieselmeyer, longtime football coach at Orange Lutheran, entered his eternal rest on Friday, October 13, 2023.

Most of the OLu community knows Dean Vieselmeyer as “Coach.” Dean served as an OLu Football coach for approximately 30 years. He filled a lot of different roles and served in a variety of capacities over those 30 years as a coach. Early on in his ministry at OLu, he served as Defensive Coordinator, later handing those duties off to his son Brent in 2000. Dean coached numerous positions including defensive line, defensive
ends, inside linebackers, outside linebackers, and long snappers. He coached at both the varsity level and the freshman level at different times during his tenure.

Dean returned to Orange Lutheran after a few years of absence when Coach Sherman was hired back to lead the program at OLu, serving as a Freshman assistant and the leader of the spiritual formation program.

Coach is one of a select few coaches who has been a part of all 3 CIF Championships that the Orange Lutheran Football Program has won (2004, 2006, 2021).

Dean served under the past 5 Lancer Head Coaches:

  • Tim Taube
  • Jim Kunau
  • Chuck Petersen
  • JP Presley
  • Rod Sherman

Dean will always be remembered for his endless energy and innate ability to positively impact the lives of players, coaches, parents, and the OLu community.

To honor his legacy and commitment, Dean’s family lovingly requests donations made to the Orange Lutheran Football Program in his memory. Dean cared tremendously about a commitment to excellence in football while also creating positive relational experiences for all of the student-athletes involved in the program. In honor of Dean, donated funds will support and enhance pillars of the OLu football program, such as team retreats and other team-building activities, in addition to the creation of a memorial wall in the football locker room honoring the legacy of Coach Vies and other Lancers who have been called to their eternal rest.
