Gala

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the Gala Dinner & Show?

Gala 2021 (previously known as The Premiere) is one spectacular night to celebrate and support every student at Orange Lutheran! The Gala Dinner and Show provides a substantial amount of financial support to the many programs that make Orange Lutheran unique, but more importantly, it enables us to offer generous tuition assistance to deserving families and bring them closer to Christ.

How will Gala 2021 differ from previous years?

We are going to great lengths to ensure that Gala continues to be Orange Lutheran’s most spectacular night. While the event will be outdoors this year — it will be hosted in the Student Union for the first time — guests will still enjoy amazing food and drinks, watch a powerful show, and engage in exciting live and silent auctions. Face masks and coverings will be required when not seated or eating/drinking and guests are asked to maintain 6′ between each other, which are the same protocols asked of students, faculty, and staff each day on campus.

Safety & COVID-19 Protocols

Do I have to wear a face mask/covering?

Yes, guests will be required to wear a face mask or face covering when they are not seated at their table or eating/drinking.

What does Gala support?

The Gala presents a powerful opportunity to help deserving students receive an Orange Lutheran education — one that is Christ-centered, challenging, engaging, and transformative. When you raise your paddle or buy an auction item, you support current and future Lancers by ensuring that we will have the financial means to bring students to Christ for years to come.

Lancer Legacy Fund

The Lancer Legacy Fund is comprised of money that is permanently restricted for need-based financial aid. The principal remains secure and restricted and is held in perpetuity, while the earnings from the invested assets are utilized for need-based financial aid.

Tuition Assistance

For many families, financial aid makes attending Orange Lutheran a reality. In 2020, Orange Lutheran awarded over $3 million in need-based tuition assistance, which was only possible through the generous support of donors like you.

Annual Fund

The Annual Fund gives Orange Lutheran the ability to provide incredible programs that bring students closer to Christ and deliver an unprecedented high school experience. It provides unrestricted funding that supports academics, arts, athletics, service, and many other vital programs. Every student is positively affected by the Annual Fund in some way. Learn more at lhsoc.org/fund.

What should I wear?

Cocktail attire is requested. For ladies, this means wearing what an evening wedding would call for (knee or floor-length dresses are both appropriate). Gentlemen typically wear a suit with a collared shirt. Ties are optional. For all guests, no denim, please.

Where will the event be held?

This year, the entire event will be hosted outdoors in the beautiful Student Union for the first time, and, as always, guests will be treated to powerful performances featuring our students and produced by Orange Lutheran alumni — this year, it will be from the comfort of their table rather than in the Nechita Center. The Student Union will be transformed for a comfortable and safe experience for our guests and will adhere to the same policies and procedures that are in place for students, staff, and faculty.

Will there be heaters?

Yes! While we hope to have a warm spring evening, the Student Union will be equipped with ample heat to keep all guests comfortable.

Will there be a silent auction?

Yes! Guests will receive instructions on how to participate in the Silent Auction in real-time from their cell phones. Silent Auction items will be available to view inside the Ellwein Center, however, all bidding takes place on the Gala Silent Auction website. Additional information is available on our Auction page.

How many guests are seated at each table?

Each table at the Gala Dinner & Show can accommodate up to 10 guests. If you have questions or seating requests please contact Candice.Corbett@lhsoc.org or 714-282-4682. Please visit Underwriting Opportunities if you would like the option to host fewer than 10 guests at your table.

How does the beverage pre-sale work?

New this year, guests have the ability to pre-purchase drink tickets and bottles of wine online before the night of the event — and at a discounted price! Click here to learn more and to purchase beverages. Your drink tickets and/or wine will be waiting for you when you arrive. Wine and beer will also be available for purchase at the event. Soda and water (flat and sparkling) are complimentary.

How do I participate in the Silent Auction?

Participate at the event or at home! To participate in the Silent Auction, simply create an account through our auction host, GiveSmart, and place your bids or watch items. Bidding closes at 7 pm on Saturday, April 24, and you do not have to be present to win. You’ll receive a text if you’re outbid or if you’re the winning bidder, along with payment information if you won!

How do I participate in the Live Auction?

The Live Auction will take place in person at the event. Upon arrival, you will receive a personalized bid paddle. To bid on an item, the bidder must signal the auctioneer or spotter by raising their personalized paddle. Your number will be called out by the auctioneer and the winning number will be announced once bidding has slowed. Upon winning, the item number and final bid will be officially recorded by the auction committee. If you’re the winning bidder, payment in full is required at the end of the evening at the checkout table. We gladly accept checks (made payable to Orange Lutheran High School), cash, MasterCard, Visa, or American Express. If an item is not claimed by the end of the checkout process, it can be offered to the next highest bidder unless other arrangements have been made through Candice Corbett or Bruce Freeman.

How can I see what auction items are available?

All auction items are listed at olugala.givesmart.com. Silent Auction items are open for bidding as of Monday, April 19, and Live Auction items will be available to bid on during the event on Saturday, April 24. A GiveSmart account is required to bid or watch items, but is not required to view items.

What are the auction rules?
