OLu MISSIONS

Equipping and training students to express the love of Jesus and to glorify Him in their everyday lives.

Since 2000, thousands of Lancers have served nearly 400,000 hours in twenty countries on six continents. And each year, hundreds of learners have shared God’s love and His saving grace message of salvation through service to others. OLu Missions combines outreach and on-campus ministries with coursework as learners choose to serve in a variety of ways, including construction projects, disaster relief, elderly care, and children’s clinics. These experiences provide opportunities to learn techniques for effectively working across cultural, religious, and national boundaries while fostering positive mental health and well-being. The mission of Orange Lutheran is to help students internalize the Gospel message of salvation in Christ Jesus, and the Missions program offers a hands-on way to do so.

MISSIONS TRIPS

Mission trips offer opportunities for students to share and experience Christ’s love through serving others. Annual trips include serving on the Paiute Reservation in Bishop, CA and the Appalachian Mountains of Eastern Kentucky. OLu Missions has been the hands and feet of Jesus in more than ten countries worldwide. All students are strongly encouraged to participate in a Missions trip beginning in their freshman year, as no prerequisites or prior experience are needed.

MISSIONS CLASS

The Missions class is a Theology elective course focusing on how Christians live in the world today. The curriculum rotates over four years and includes themes around vocation and God’s callings on one’s life, such as cultural intelligence, ecological responsibility, poverty alleviation, and community development.

LOCAL ENGAGEMENT

Many opportunities to minister to and serve others are right here in Orange County. Organized by Missions students, OLu Missions partners with several local churches and organizations to help address the needs of people right in our community–those who are without homes, in foster care, and at risk.

FAQ

Do I have to be in the Missions Class to go on a trip?

No! Missions trips are open to all students, alumni, and parents.

Who can serve as a chaperone?

OLu alumni (over age 25), parents, OLu faculty and staff, and people with a heart for Missions and service can serve as chaperones. OLu alumni under age 25 are welcome to serve as assistant chaperones.

How can I support OLu Missions?

While the school provides essential financial support, the Missions program is primarily funded through trip costs and gifts from alumni, parents, and friends. Click here to support the ministry of OLu Missions.

Additionally, you can support OLu Missions in the following ways:

  • Volunteer in a class, as a chaperone on a trip, or supervise a Local Engagement opportunity
  • Shop at Ralphs or Kroger stores? Register your Ralphs Rewards Card online at ralphs.com. Under the “My Account” section, select the “Community Rewards” tab and input Orange Lutheran’s name and/or NPO number (ET527). Every time a member shops for groceries and swipes their card, OLu will earn a rebate.
  • Serve on the Missions Leadership Team, an advisory group of parents and other OLu-affiliated adults that are mission-minded and invested in the internalization of the gospel message of Christ through OLu Missions.
  • Pray for the ministry, students and participants, our partners, those we serve, and those we will serve in the future.

Can I take the Missions Class instead of Theology?

No. The Missions Class is an elective course and is offered in addition to the Theology courses that are a required part of the OLu curriculum.

Will participating in a Missions trip or Local Engagement opportunity count for service hours?

Yes. While OLu does not require service hours for its students, we can verify your service with OLu Missions for another organization.
